Pensacola Beach

Located just south of Gulf Breeze on Santa Rosa Island, Pensacola Beach can be best described as a perfect blend of natural, coastal beauty and lavish beach-side amenities.  The world famous shore and resort community  – perhaps best highlighted by sugar-white beaches and emerald waters – is one of the best places in Northwest Florida for dining, entertainment, and good family-friendly fun.  From top-tier beach bars with nightly live music, to educational opportunities to learn about local wildlife and the complex ecological systems at play along the eighteen miles of beautiful shoreline, Pensacola Beach is never boring… and a must-visit for vacationers and locals looking to unwind in an area known for an average of 343 days of sunshine each year!

Neighborhood Make-up

Known by many nicknames – such as the “Western Gate to the Sunshine State” & the “World’s Whitest Beach” – the Pensacola Beach area is the perfect location for buyers & vacationers that just cannot seem to get enough of the beach life.  While connected to Pensacola in name and general location, the area truly is in a world all its own – evident in the seamless blend of natural and luxury elements typical of the area.  The beach, itself, is a barrier island, so it should come as no surprise that most real estate consists of condo units and lavish beach homes, often with breathtaking views of the Gulf of Mexico.  Properties on the island range from modest townhomes and beach cottages, to sprawling luxury properties with prices reaching into the millions.

Dining

The abundance of good food cannot be overstated when talking about the Pensacola Beach area.  While seafood is a time-tested favorite on the island – cooked to perfection in casual eateries such as The Grand Marlin and Peg Leg Pete’s – the availability of expertly cook cuisine is not limited to that of the ichthyoid variety.  Beyond seafood, visitors to the island can treat themselves to a smorgasbord of good eats.  Other options include Water Pig BBQ and Hemingway’s Island Grill – a casual café with a menu inspired by the famous writer’s fascination with adventure and excellent food.

Entertainment

In addition to great eats, Pensacola Beach is the perfect place to grab a drink and unwind… often accompanied by the sounds of live music.  Bamboo Willie’s – a beachfront nightclub located on the Pensacola Beach Boardwalk – is a perfect place to enjoy great local tunes, while sipping a world-famous Bushwacker.  Sandshaker Lounge and the Island Culture Tiki Bar – also known as the Sneaky Tiki – are great destinations for good, island fun.  For those looking for more family-friendly outings, UFO’s Mini-Golf, Ice Cream & Arcade is a must-visit for visitors to the island.

Shopping

Pensacola Beach is also a great place to get your shopping done.  From the fashionable to the practical, the Pensacola Beach Boardwalk offers many different shopping experiences custom-tailored to your shopping needs.  Options range from high-end shops like the Envie and Ardor boutiques, to Intercoastal Outfitters – outdoor lifestyle emporiums such as Intracoastal Outfitters and the Maverick Board Riding Company – there isn’t much you can’t find on the island!

Attractions

            Fort Pickens

For those interested in the area’s history, or just looking for a great place to camp on the island, the Fort Pickens Area of the Gulf Islands National Seashore is only a 25-minute drive from Pensacola Beach proper.  The fort – originally completed in 1834 – was used by federal troops during the Civil War and was held the imprisoned Apache war chief, Geronimo after his capture during the Indian Wars in the late 1800s. The area offers many facilities, including a campground, fishing pier, and discover center – displaying exhibits on the natural environment, wildlife, and history of the area.

            Pensacola Beach Eco-Trail

For nature-lovers, nothing beats the Pensacola Beach Eco-Trail – and 8.5-mile trail that showcases the unique biome found in the area.  The trail, a collection of 29 stops located across the island, offers pictures and maps to guide visitors in their exploration of the flora and fauna found in the area.  Whether you’re an avid bird watcher or interested in the arduous trek of sea turtle hatchlings, the Pensacola Beach Eco-Trail is a crucial stop when visiting the island.

            Snorkeling Reefs

While in Escambia County, visitors and residents will not want to miss out on the area’s excellent snorkeling reefs.  While not as intensive – both in time and money – as it’s more famous cousin, scuba diving, snorkeling allows even the laymen to observe the vibrant underwater world that the area is known for.  Both the Pensacola Beach Gulf Snorkel Reef and the Pensacola Bay Snorkel Reef are within easy traveling distance from Pensacola Beach – and offer a first-had experience with maritime ecosystems teeming just beneath the area’s emerald waters.

            Pensacola Beach Fishing Pier

The Pensacola Beach Fishing Pier – a 1,471-ft long pier is the perfect option for the vacationing angler.  The pier offers bait & tackle options, rod, cooler, and cart rentals, as well as a healthy selection of food, drink choices while visiting.  Anglers can expect to catch anything from Mahi Mahi & Flounder, to Tarpon & Red Fish – all within walking distance of establishments on the beach, itself – such as the Casino Beach Bar & Grill.
