5 Companies That'll Transfer You to the Gulf Coast

Local

I was talking to one of my best friends the other day, and she confessed something to me which was rather shocking. No, you didn’t stumble onto a gossip blog inadvertently; my pal told me she prefers the snowy mountains to the beach! While I’ve visited mountainous regions and can appreciate their beauty, in my humble personal opinion, living on the beach is the ultimate paradise. Seasons are something I could honestly do without. Give me bright, warm sunny days 365 a year and I’m happy as a clam.

I meet a lot of clients doing relocation, and what helps make this job so fulfilling is the pure joy they exhibit moving to a beach paradise like Pensacola, Destin, Navarre, Mary Esther and other cities in the Northwest Florida Gulf Coast region. I find that my friend is in the minority of people I meet, but maybe that wouldn’t be the case if I was a realtor somewhere along the Rocky Mountains. Regardless, I know a lot of people across the United States, and across the globe, dream of the easy life on a beach with white sands and emerald waters, which got me to thinking about the easiest ways to move here. That’s when it hit me; a job can offer you more than a paycheck.

There’s health and dental benefits of course, but this blog post isn’t designed to help you pick out a dentist. What I’m talking about are companies who will transfer you to another location in a part of the country (or world) which you’d prefer to stay. When choosing between multiple jobs in the same field, this list could be the deciding factor in where you decide to accept employment. So, without further ado, I present to you Five Great Companies Which Will Transfer You to the Gulf Coast.

UPS

The United Parcel Service, or UPS, is an American owned multinational corporation which focuses on package delivery and supply chain management headquartered in Sandy Springs, Georgia. The “UPS” name, logo and brand are used in conjunction with three other separate companies, all of which are owned by their parent company UPS. UPS Airlines is the UPS owned airline division, while UPS Freight covers their trucking based transportation. The UPS Store sort of ties all of the businesses together, as they offer brick and mortar storefronts to drop off your packages, buy office supplies/TWIX bars and and even use computer workstations at some locations.

The American Messenger Company, the business entity which would eventually morph into the United Parcel Service, was founded in 1907, although the corporation didn’t take on its current name until 1919. In 1975, UPS moved to Greenwich, CT and made history by becoming the first delivery company to serve every address in the continental United States. From there, the success of UPS spiraled ever upward, as they they began acquiring the other divisions which would eventually turn them into a global powerhouse capable of delivering nearly anywhere on Earth.

Owning more than one hundred thousand delivery vehicles ranging from tractor trailer trucks to, as of 2008, bicycles, UPS invests heavily in their company, which is partly why they are such a leader in their field. Their marketing department has gotten creative in making sure that the United Parcel Service is the first thing that pops into a person’s brain when they think of package shipping, including having commissioned the creation of their own font, UPS sans. Let these two seemingly unrelated facts paint a picture though, one of a company who has a lot of employees in a variety of departments.

UPS today employs over three hundred thousand employees in the United States alone, with roughly another hundred thousand working throughout the globe. Chances are, wherever you live, there is an UPS job waiting for you to claim it, and more importantly, here along the Gulf Coast, there are plenty of positions which you can transfer to.

Publix

“Everyone’s gotta eat!” A restaurant owner I once knew told me that when they explained why they are a restaurateur. When not indulging in restaurants, people generally eat groceries, so it will come as no surprise that Publix is one of the leading employers in the south east, boasting a massive 193,000 (roughly) roster over the 1,250 grocery stores, distribution centers, corporate offices, liquor stores, manufacturing facilities and cooking schools the company owns. If you’re looking for solid employment by an employee owned company, look no further than Publix Supermarkets.

As an employee owned company, stock options are only available to employees and board members. As the fifteenth largest retailer in the United States, these shares can be quite valuable. In November 2018, shares were forty two dollars and some change, and like I said, while they can’t be purchased by any non employees, except board members of course, shares of Publix stock can’t be sold without first giving the company a chance to buy them back. You can see how working here could make you quite a bit of money, and that’s not including your paycheck.

A corporation known for taking good care of its workers, offering great benefits packages as well as stock options, one could certainly do a lot worse than a career with Publix. The care and quality which goes into their bakery and deli is often a topic of discussion amongst their customers and critics, and with their wide variety of locations (821 in Florida, 188 in Georgia, 74 in Alabama, 62 in South Carolina, 46 in Tennessee, 43 in North Carolina, and 16 in Virginia), you can see how Publix is a job which could be a ticket to the beach you’ve always dreamed of, a golden ticket to paradise if you would.

NextEra Energy

While it is true people have to eat, people also need power in the modern world. NextEra Energy is a massive corporation spanning the United States and Canada, which owns many power companies, including Gulf Power. They are a Fortune 200 company with revenues in the billions. Some of their subsidiaries include NextEra Energy Services, NextEra Energy Partners, NextEra Energy Resources, and Florida Power & Light. NextEra Energy Resources is involved with solar, wind, natural gas, nuclear power and oil.

NextEra is a corporation who cares about the area it services, which makes working for them a plus, as everyone likes to feel good about the organization they align themselves with for work. During Hurricane Irma, for example, NextEra donated one million dollars to the Florida Disaster Fund, and they also matched any donation made by any of their employees. In fact, NextEra has their own charitable organization, the NextEra Energy Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the lives of people who rely on NextEra for their energy needs. NextEra indeed goes above and beyond to make this world a safer, cleaner, more efficient place.

While the technician route is always a possibility, a plethora of jobs await worthy candidates at NextEra, or Gulf Power in particular. The corporation has security needs, IT needs as well as sales and marketing and accounting jobs. This only touches the surface of the variety of positions available at NextEra/Gulf Power, so if you are interested in the energy field and want the option to move somewhere along the line, you know where to apply.

Navy Federal Credit Union

Taking the crown as having the highest amount of assets and members for all the United States natural member credit unions in existence, Navy Federal can claim over 91 million in assets and 8.1 million members. A successful company is always preferable to work for than one constantly in the red, but more importantly to anyone interested in the banking industry, Navy Federal Credit Union is regularly listed on the Forbes Top 100 Companies to Work For list. There are almost 300 branch locations worldwide, with roughly five hundred and eighty ATM machines to make banking easy for their customers. However, those who bank with Navy Federal can also access another 30,000 CO-OP ATM machines from other credit unions, as well as 711 stores, transaction fee free.

While there are contact centers in Vienna and Winchester Virginia, the largest contact center is actually located in Pensacola, and has a constant need for more employees. With an ever expanding business and the necessity for its customers to maintain twenty four seven contact with their bank, jobs are easier to find at the Pensacola Navy Federal Contact Center than sand at Pensacola Beach. If you’re living in Virginia and are dreaming of warmer winters, or if you are a teller at one of their many locations worldwide, Navy Federal can help your personal life to go as smoothly as your professional one by offering employment in one of Florida’s finest cities featuring one of Florida’s finest beaches.

Hilton Hotels & Resorts

People who travel a lot, for work or for play, know that Hilton Hotels always offer top quality comforts and services, and on those rare occasions when they don’t, their corporate office is more than happy to make things right with a customer who was wronged. That’s because Hilton brand hotels pride themselves in a way that most chains do not, and that pride has brought forth opportunities abound for Hilton hotels to open up across the globe.

Hilton brand hotels include Conrad Hotels & Resorts, Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts, Canopy by Hilton, Embassy Suites by Hilton, Homewood Suites by Hilton, Home2Suites by Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, HamptonInn by Hilton, Tru by Hilton, DoubleTree by Hilton, Curio Collection by Hilton (my personal favorite), Tapestry Collection by Hilton, and the flagship Hilton Hotels & Resorts. If a city exists, there is probably a Hilton there, if not several. With over 894,000 rooms in over 109 countries, using your job to move around the nation, or even the world, is easier working for Hilton than most companies.

Outside of the direct hospitality industry, hotels need cooks, maintenance men, marketing professionals and activities directors, as well as a plethora of other jobs, to run properly. This makes working for the Hilton corporation an exciting proposition for people with a wide variety of backgrounds. Love working with people? Great, there’s tons of jobs for you in the hospitality industry! Rather not deal with customers during your shift? A large enough hotel needs all types, so worry not.
